Which is the best way to join products of industrial rubber such as joints, profiles and weatherstrips to surfaces of glass, plastic or metal? Mechanical fastening is reliable, but it also requires a lot of time.
Its 4 advantages:
- Adhesive tape provides faster installation time than plastic fasteners, which require drilling a hole for each fastener and then pushing them through the holes.
- It is also beneficial when the space is limited. Products such as spongy weatherstrips are compressible and can provide damping, noise control and excellent resistance to vibrations. In comparison, assemblies which are mechanically fastened can loosen over time and generate leakages.
- The unions provided by these adhesives are strong and reliable, and can expand or contract with temperature changes. Stress dissipates in the whole core of the tape and does not only concentrate on the union line. In contrast, tension in bolted unions is concentrated on the threaded portions of the screw. Under variable loading conditions, these threaded sections are especially vulnerable.
- Adhesive profiles also adjust to irregularities of the surface. And, even once they are placed in materials such as glass, plastic and metal, they remain clean and soft, as there are no areas elevated with bolts, fasteners or screw heads.
Types
These pieces also provide engineers with a variety of options. For example, you can choose joint tapes that provide temporary or permanent fastening, or that can stand outdoor or indoor conditions.
During the selection of the adhesive tape, our engineers will consider all the requirements of your application. For instance, if you need a union that is compatible with the paint system of vehicles, you will require that it can stand high humidity conditions. However, if your sealing application is for the lighting or food industry, you will probably need profiles that allow you to work conveniently at extreme temperatures.
